Canada's first postsecondary school Crime Stoppers Program has been launched at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).
Abstract
Known as Campus Crime Stoppers, the program is intended to positively affect the student body which includes about 40,000 full-time, apprentice, and continuing education students. The program is aimed at high school and junior high school students. Since Campus Crime Stoppers has been launched, NAIT staff and students are preparing for a major awareness campaign, and a student board has been established to handle daily program operations. The program follows certain steps: student calls the student line to report a crime; calls are received and information is recorded on a 24-hour basis; information is passed to NAIT security, and each tip is investigated; and consequences are imposed on the perpetrator(s) once the investigation is complete.
