The introductory chapter defines the crime scene, explains types of crime scenes, reviews the role of physical evidence in crime scene investigation, and discusses scientific crime scene investigation. A chapter on crime scene procedures focuses on procedures to be followed by the crime scene investigation team. In discussing physical evidence at crime scenes, a chapter discusses types of physical evidence, the classification of physical evidence, physical evidence and forensic science, and specialties in forensic science. Other chapters focus on crime scene equipment, the documentation of crime scenes, the search for physical evidence, the collection and preservation of physical evidence, field tests and enhancement reagents, special scene techniques, and the reconstruction of the crime. The authors note that many new techniques, methods, and concepts are introduced in the book; for example, the concept of macroscopic and microscopic crime scenes, the three-level crime scene security system, and the classification of physical evidence. 64 references
