This report evaluates the Washington State Experience (WSE) in providing State services to victims of sexual assault.
Abstract
In 1990, the Washington State Legislature allocated funds for three categories of grants: early identification and treatment for child victims, prevention of sexual assault, and treatment of sexual assault victims. This report is based on interviews with each of the programs funded by these grant programs and selected other individuals in the State. The report describes the activities of grantee agencies, presents grantee evaluations of State services to victims of sexual assault and State provision of sexual abuse prevention education, and summarizes results of a survey of Washington service provider knowledge and experience. The recommendations included herein deal with a number of aspects of victim services and prevention, including organization of the grant program itself, recognition of local programs as valuable resources, provision of short-term therapy, the need for Statewide professional training, the need to restructure child protective services, and the demand for innovations in rural services. 4 tables, 5 references, and 3 appendixes
