This report discusses the U.S. General Accounting Office's (GAO) ongoing reviews of U.S. international narcotic control efforts, which were mandated by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986.
Abstract
The reviews have focused specifically on the management and effectiveness of programs funded by the Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics Matters (INM), as well as efforts conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Agency for International Development (AID). This statement provides preliminary observations on some of the problems facing the U.S. International Narcotics Control Program as it operates in Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Pakistan, Burma, and Thailand.
