During 1994, the OPA's Felony Division saw a 9 percent increase in cases filed. Three Strikes legislation was enacted in 1994, and the law has been used to put violent career criminals away for life. Pierce County established a drug court, the Juvenile Division began to recover from an increase in juvenile violence, the Misdemeanor Division began operating a Domestic Violence Trial Team, and efforts were made to reduce court caseloads.
