This report presents statistical data and discussions of worldwide supplies and consumption of narcotic drugs in 1989 and estimates of world demand for drugs in 1991, based on information from the International Narcotics Control Board.
Abstract
Information is also provided regarding the status of adherence to the 1961 and 1971 international conventions regarding narcotic drugs. The data cover the cultivation of poppies for the production of opium and other purposes, the extraction of alkaloids from opium and poppy straw, the conversion of morphine, the manufacture of heroin and the other main narcotic drugs, and the manufacture of other narcotic drugs. Additional tables present statistics on the production, use, and exports of coca leaves and the manufacture of cocaine; the consumption of the main narcotic drugs as well as other drugs; the average daily consumption of defined daily doses per million residents; the total stocks of narcotics; imports and exports of 14 types of drugs; and drug seizures.
