The first chapter contains clinical information on selected mental health disorders, ranging from major depression and bipolar disorders to phobias, personality disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder, and contains general strategies for supervising mentally disordered offenders with a particular disorder. The second chapter discusses treatment and supervision issues vis-a-vis dually diagnosed offenders, i.e., those who suffer both from a mental health disorder and alcohol or drug abuse. The handbook discusses various psychotropic medications, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants; concerns related to child molesters; the correlation between violence and mental health disorders; and national and State mental health treatment resources.
