The Inala Community and Police Network (the Network) is a community policing project established to improve Aboriginal and police relations in Inala, although the focus quickly expanded to general police/community relations. The main focus of the Network is on providing activities and services to the local community, particularly youth. In addition, a National Drug Strategy project is located with the Network. The Network's activities include: (1) providing advice and information in a variety of areas, e.g., referrals to welfare services, crime prevention, policing matters; (2) organizing youth diversionary programs; (3) liaising with local community agencies to reduce overlap in service provision and to ensure the exchange of information; and (4) patrolling the shopping center where the Network is located and responding to a limited range of crime committed within the shopping center.
