Abstract
The section on issues, concerns, and programs pertinent to violent crime and drug abuse in rural areas focuses on programs in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, New Mexico, New York, South Dakota, Vermont, and Washington State. The second section reports on the results of the Bureau of Justice Assistance State Reporting and Evaluation Program "State and Local Programs Working Meeting: Treatment, Rehabilitation, and Education," held April 7-9, 1994, in San Francisco. This meeting assembled over 40 State planners and local practitioners as well as researchers and analysts who have previously been or currently are involved in implementing or evaluating treatment, rehabilitation, and education programs from 16 States. This section identifies and documents treatment, rehabilitation, and education programs at the State and local levels. The third section of the monograph identifies and documents programs that focus on understanding and combatting violence at the State and local levels. It presents perspectives from four national experts and documents the State and local programs that were presented at the workshop. The concluding section profiles programs that focus on preventing drug abuse and violence at the State and local levels.
