This video presents 21 television and 9 radio public service announcements (PSAs) sponsored by the Office of National Drug Control Policy and designed to prevent children and youth from using drugs.
Abstract
The featured slogan in all of the PSAs is "Stay drug free!! You have the power!" All of the television PSAs begin by filling the TV screen with this slogan while Lee Brown, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy states the slogan and provides a brief introduction to the statements by well-known personalities designed to discourage drug use. The television PSAs then conclude with another flashing of the slogan on the TV screen and its pronouncement by Lee Brown, who identifies his status as director of the National Drug Control Policy. A drug hotline telephone number is also prominently displayed in the closing frame. The drug prevention messages are presented by male and female television personalities, professional athletes (basketball and football), and sports coaches. The television personalities are mostly from daytime television series, with many of them being male and female child and youth stars. Most of the PSAs are 30 seconds in length, with some being 15-second edited versions of the 30-second PSAs. The radio PSAs are 15 seconds in length and are edited versions of the TV PSAs to make them suitable for the audio medium.
