The terms of reference of this report set out nine major complaint, redress, and policy mechanisms in Canada including human rights commission processes, remedies granted by courts and human rights tribunals, private court actions, alternative dispute resolution processes, employment equity, contract and subsidy compliance, ombudsmen, multicultural legislation, and policy and communications regulation. Several chapters deal with specific problems, including hate propaganda and labor legislation. Discussion of provincial remedies focuses on the representative jurisdictions of Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia; the international chapters highlight comparable mechanisms in the U.S., Sweden, Australia, the United Kingdom, New South Wales, France, and Germany. 13 appendixes
