These executions include political assassination, death resulting from torture or ill treatment in prison, death resulting from enforced disappearances, death resulting from the excessive use of force by law enforcement officers, execution without due process, and acts of genocide. The first two sections discuss international human rights standards, initiated through the United Nations, the International Labor Organization, and regional organizations, that pertain to these executions. The manual presents a model protocol (the Minnesota protocol) for establishing a commission of inquiry into suspicious executions. The final section outlines model protocols for conducting autopsies and for disinterring and analyzing skeletal remains of executed persons. 3 appendixes
