For this report, three types of incidents were considered: bullying, any kind of physical attack, and robbery. Seventy-one percent of the respondents reported having knowledge of bullying, physical attack, or robbery at their schools during the current school year; 56 percent had witnessed at least one incident. However, the fear of victimization was relatively low, reported by only 25 percent of surveyed students. Twelve percent of students reported having been directly and personally victimized at school during the current school year; about 8 percent had been bullied, 4 percent physically attacked, and less than 1 percent robbed. Reports of crime and threats in schools are discussed in terms of differences by school grade level, public and private school, gender, school size, and school racial composition and student ethnicity. 2 tables and 8 notes
