Abstract
The chapter examines the state of medical service delivery in American prisons, with a particular emphasis on substance abuse, HIV infection and AIDS, and tuberculosis. The discussion concentrates on the prevalence of these conditions; correctional policies concerning education, testing, and treatment; the known efficacy of existing education and treatment interventions; and the probable impact these issues will have on correctional health care for the next few decades. 3 notes and 57 references
