Data for the August 1994 to August 1995 period show an increase in the male institutional population from 117,819 to 124,135 and an increase in the female institution population from 8,193 to 9,018. Prison population movement data indicate 11,392 received and 10,724 released in August 1994 and 13,121 received and 11,574 released in August 1995. Statistical data are provided on arrivals and transfers, admission or return status by institution, and ethnic characteristics of the institutional population. Parole population data reflect an increase in the male parole population from 77,159 to 83,007 and an increase in the female parole population from 8,075 to 8,430. Parole population movement data indicate 10,126 received and 10,129 released in August 1994 and 10,985 received and 11,946 released in August 1995. Data are also tabulated on monthly parole population movements and on ethnic characteristics of parolees. 10 tables
