Annotation
Criminal justice research has been conducted to analyze new policy and operational issues associated with the dramatic increase in crime rates in the United States since the 1960's; in particular, the Rand Corporation established its Criminal Justice Program in 1976 to develop policies and practices that assure the effective use of public safety resources.
Abstract
Rand's Criminal Justice Program conducts systematic research in the following areas: career criminals, corrections and prison management, probation and parole, juvenile offenders, law enforcement and crime control, prosecution and sentencing, criminal justice system effectiveness, and drug problems. Research in the preceding areas is reported, and a multidisciplinary approach to analyzing the criminal justice system's complex functions and problems is recommended. References and figures
