This article provides an overview of the changes in the criminal justice system and criminal activities in East and West Germany since reunification.
Abstract
Both systems are described briefly before and after reunification, especially concerning the conflicting styles of social and economic control. Predictions are offered for future developments in crime, criminology, and social control. A lack of confidence by the public in government officials and the virtual status quo of lower economic development in the former East German areas are noted. Recommendations are given for correcting current social and political problems. 13 references
