Abstract
The first article analyzes the reforms in the Hungarian Border Guard Service since 1989, which have brought the service up to international standards and made it lawful, economical, and effective. The second article reports on the Second International Police Research Symposium, held in Szolnok, August 25-26, 1994; twenty participants from European countries and Canada discussed scientific research and the modernization of the European police force. The third article introduces the Hungarian Police College, which has gained prominence in education and scientific life because of its high professional standards; recently, the college organized an international symposium on the armed forces, police, and political power. Another article focuses on the comprehensive reforms of police training in conjunction with the increased Hungarian emphasis on police professionalism. Next, a computerized identification system is introduced; it allows the analysis of dynamic prints, automatic coding, pre-selection, and comparison of prints. This system allows the construction of a special database where individual and group characteristics of the stored data are coded.
