The report contains information on Index (Part I) offenses, Part II offenses, location and time of the offense, value of property stolen, arrests for Index and Part II offenses, juvenile arrests, law enforcement officers killed or assaulted, and law enforcement personnel and expenditures. In 1994 the number of Index offenses reported statewide dropped for the fourth consecutive year and fell to the lowest level since the establishment of the current Uniform Crime Reports program. Compared with 1993, the number of Index crimes in 1994 declined 5.3 percent in the non-New York City counties and 11.6 percent in New York City. New York City accounted for approximately 6 out of every 10 Index crimes reported statewide. The violent crime rate of 962.5 per 100,000 population in 1994 was the lowest since 1985. Reported arrests during 1994 totaled 1,235,404, a 10.2- percent increase from the 1,120,883 reported during 1993. These arrest figures include both adults and juveniles as well as both fingerprintable and non-fingerprintable offenses; summonses for violations of local ordinances are included as well.
