The analysis used data from 1,302 students of the disciplines, including 456 social work students, 233 psychology students, 345 education students, and 268 medical students. The instrument constructed for use in the study examined the following main areas used by professionals in determining cases of maltreatment: (1) their perceptions of the various situations of child maltreatment, (2) their awareness of the risk factors for child maltreatment, (3) their awareness of the signs of child maltreatment, and (4) their willingness to report various cases of maltreatment. Findings indicated that students in the four disciplines may disregard important factors in detecting cases of child abuse and suggested the need to strengthen the training of future professionals on this topic. 22 references (Author abstract modified)
