The project resulted from the efforts of a consortium of experts established in 1994 to discuss the increasing problem of female delinquent gang involvement in the greater Cleveland area. The project uses the rites-of-passage philosophy in an effort to break the cycle of violence that often leads to female gang affiliation and involvement in juvenile delinquency. This philosophy is woven throughout the educational, wellness, job training, and vocational placement components of the Tabula Rasa Project. Project goals are to assist youthful females to develop problemsolving skills, develop life management skills, develop a positive self-image, and invest in their communities. Through its four components, the project attempts to persuade females away from the logical set of associations to the gang and toward other more legitimate community associations. The project will be evaluated using both qualitative and quantitative data from interviews, intake assessments, and court records. 27 references
