This is a summary of Minnesota juvenile justice actions, by gender, during 1993.
Abstract
Juvenile female apprehensions rose 31 percent, and those of males increased 12 percent from 1980 to 1993. Juvenile females accounted for twenty-five percent of all apprehensions of 10- to 17-year-olds in 1985 and 1993. The majority of apprehensions of juveniles under 10 years old were for larceny and burglary. There were nearly 15,000 juveniles on probation in 1993, of which approximately 3,000 were female. In 1993, juvenile males were apprehended more often than juvenile females for all offenses except the juvenile status offense of running away. Juvenile females accounted for a quarter of all apprehensions of 10- to 17-year-olds in 1985 and 1993. The number of male juvenile probation cases increased 116 percent from 1983 to 1993, while those for females rose 93 percent. The numbers of juveniles ages 10 to 17 will reach its peak in the year 2000, with the number of males slightly exceeding the number of females. Appendixes
