This report presents the results of the 12th annual prison census in Australia and describes the numbers and characteristics of the inmates in adults correctional institutions in all Australian jurisdictions on June 30, 1993.
Abstract
The data cover those who were sentenced, awaiting to be sentenced, and awaiting trial. The statistical tables describe the number of prisoners by jurisdiction, sex, institution, security classification, age, aboriginality, State or country of birth, location of last known address, marital status at intake, arrest or charge, employment status, and known highest level of education. Data are also presented regarding inmates' known prior adult imprisonment under sentence, level of court of sentence or most recent remand, most serious offense or charge, Federal offender status, type of sentence, aggregate sentence, time already served in current episode, time expected to serve in prison, original jurisdiction of sentence or remand in custody order, and time already served on remand.
