This video uses news footage, dramatizations, and narration to make viewers aware of the connection between alcohol abuse and violent behavior.
Abstract
News footage shows violent assaults and the removal of bodies from murder scenes, and domestic violence is dramatized. The narrator advises that violent crimes and violent behavior occur in every town and neighborhood and even within many homes. The connection of alcohol abuse with violent behavior is made by the comments of the narrator rather than through the visual presentation, since alcohol abuse is not portrayed. The narrator notes statistics that indicate alcohol use is involved in at least half of the violent crimes, including assaults, homicide, domestic violence, and rape. He further advises that this link between alcohol abuse and violent crime is rarely mentioned in the news coverage of crime incidents or even in police statistics. The video encourages viewers to help remedy this hidden link between alcohol abuse and violent behavior by "lifting up" this fact in conversations and in other forums. Thus, the video is intended to stimulate discussion and the pursuit of additional information on the prevalence and nature of the link between alcohol use and violent crime.
