Abstract
A table that shows the statistical measures of penalties shows the unit of count for the sentence (imprisonment, fine, or unpaid community work) and the minimum, median, and maximum of each type of sentence for the offense. A table on suspended sentences shows the original term of sentence by portion suspended and the operational period by portion of original term suspended. Another table pertains to the penalties imposed on persons sentenced based on principal offenses. Other tables provide data on the disposition of offenses and type of penalty imposed for each charged offense, persons sentenced under ANCO (Australian National Classification of Offenses) offense groups by sex and age group, and the 100 most common offenses brought before magistrates' courts in Victoria. Appendixes contain selected Victorian legislation in Alphabetical order with act number, selected Victorian legislation and regulations in Act number order, codes for Commonwealth legislation and regulations, and regulation names and codes on Courtlink.
