Pathfinders Treatment Program is a behavioral health program of Woodward Academy in Iowa and offers services to young male sex offenders who are between ages 12 and 18.
Abstract
Pathfinders is one of 19 sites operated by Youth Services International. Pathfinders is a locked program with intensely scheduled activities within a modified positive peer culture. The program's six components are (1) respect, discipline, and accountability; (2) intensely scheduled activities; (3) modified positive peer culture; (4) total behavior change; (5) emphasis on spiritual, mental, and physical education; and (6) work experience. Integrity, intensity, and intimacy are integral to the success of the students. Each sex offender receives an individualized assessment and care plan. Each offender needs to accept responsibility for the offenses in which he has been involved, to learn how to intervene in his offense pattern at its first sign, to engage in a reeducation and resocialization process, and to have an aftercare support group and postrelease access to treatment.
