An introduction to the Delaware court system presents a chart that shows administrative authority and governmental funding source. Also included in this introduction are an appeals and transfers chart and a court jurisdiction chart. The introduction is followed by summaries of caseloads for each type of court for fiscal year 1995. A commentary on fiscal year 1995 is provided by the Chief Justice. A fiscal overview presents a summary of judicial budgets, court-generated revenue, restitution, and State appropriations. Case-processing data are presented for each of the following courts: Supreme Court, court of chancery, superior court, family court, court of common pleas, municipal court, justice of the peace courts, and alderman's courts. Descriptions are provided for the various judicial agencies and bodies. The Chief Justice notes that the courts disposed of record caseloads in a timely manner and launched new programs and practices designed to contribute to greater efficiency in the operations of the various courts and improved services to citizens using these courts. This report emphasizes the notable actions the judiciary is taking to prepare the Delaware court system for the changes predicted for the next century in jurisprudence, economics, technology, and society-at- large. A new feature of this annual report is the messages provided by the presiding judges on the state of their respective courts.
