Most voters said they would be less likely to vote for candidates who supported relaxed air and water pollution standards, reduced funding for children's health care and school lunch programs, and capped funding for Medicare expenditures. When these votes were attached to campaign contributions, the number of voters who said they would be less likely to vote for candidates increased significantly. Moderate Republicans and Republican women responded nearly as strongly as Democrats on pollution standards and Medicare caps. Women responded with more intensity than men to the issues of air and water pollution, Medicare, school lunches, and children's health care.
