Abstract
The four main tables provide data on firearms applications for grant and renewal, granted and refused (on issue December 31, 1995); applications for grant and renewal for shot gun certificates, granted and refused (on issue December 31, 1995); applications for registration and renewal for firearms dealers, granted and refused, and dealers registered as of December 31, 1995; and applications granted for visitors' permits for individuals and groups. More detailed tables are provided in the appendix. Data show that 141,700 firearm certificates were on issue at the end of 1995, an increase of 1 percent from the 140,200 on issue at the end of 1994. The certificates on issue covered 409,000 firearms. Approximately 1 percent of applications for new firearm and shotgun certificates made during 1995 were refused. The number of shotgun certificates on issue at the end of 1995 was 653,800, more than 2 percent fewer than the 670,000 on issue at the end of 1994. Certificates on issue covered 1,296,600 shotguns. The number of registered dealers in firearms was 2,470 at the end of 1995, 50 fewer than in 1994. Firearms permits granted to visitors during 1995 covered approximately 2,000 persons, with an additional 5,800 covered by visitors' shotgun permits. 13 tables
