Survey forms were returned by 96 percent of the 57 State and territory liaison officers. The survey predicted that, since 1982, data collection procedures and child protective service worker training in disabilities would reflect an increased emphasis on child maltreatment and disabilities. Results showed more States provided assistance to local child welfare agencies than was reported in 1982. The number of States routinely collecting disability information in child maltreatment cases declined, seven States documented specific disabilities in children, two States reported on the number of children disabled as a result of abuse, fewer States reported having accurate information on the incidence of disabled children reported for maltreatment, and seven States required training in disabilities for child welfare workers. Implications of the findings for identifying and serving maltreated children with disabilities are discussed, and recommendations for child welfare agencies are presented. 23 references and 1 table
