This manual provides an outline of a comprehensive campus security program for colleges and universities and presents a sample of practices regarded as effective in maintaining a secure campus.
Abstract
The text explains 11 topic areas that can be used to define exemplary campus security programs. These are a statement of behavioral expectations by the institutions' campus leaders, a plan for the timely dissemination of information, an effective security organization and personnel, services designed to promote safety through prevention, and a security-sensitive physical plant design and maintenance. Additional areas include a fair, just, clearly articulated judicial system; victim assistance programs; special considerations for residence halls; special attention to more volatile areas such as alcohol and illicit drug use and sexual assault; good campus-community relations; and a crisis prevention and response plan.
