The handbook is divided into three sections: an overview of the Violence Against Women Act, descriptions of Federal programs, and lists of private resource organizations. The overview of the Violence Against Women Act also includes a more detailed subtitle-by-subtitle summary. Each of the new grant programs contained in the act is described in greater detail in the section on Federal programs. This section contains detailed descriptions of Federal programs that provide funding for efforts to combat violence against women and families. Each description contains a "Program Profile" box that summarizes some of the more important information. At the start of each program description is the "Program Purpose," which is a brief statement of the program objectives. The remainder of the program description addresses key program elements: flow of funds, eligibility, uses of the funds, how to apply, selection criteria, appropriations, range of awards/project duration, and citations. The final section of the handbook describes private associations, organizations, and foundations that provide financial, technical assistance, training, and information assistance to programs and projects to combat violence against women and fulfill related functions. There are three main lists: associations and organizations, State domestic violence coalitions, and national foundations. The handbook also contains several tables that detail recent funding, as well as a subject index that refers the user directly to those programs and explanations that most closely fit the user's needs.
