A truancy prevention program was implemented in 1995 in 15 Maricopa County, Arizona, school districts in which 10 cities and towns of interest were located.
Abstract
The program is based on the concept of partnership, and steps involved in establishing a truancy prevention partnership are outlined. These steps focus on absentee and truancy rates in school districts and school attendance and truancy laws and include specific guidance on how to begin a working partnership involving school districts, local law enforcement, local courts, colleges and universities, family counseling agencies, and business and industry. Guidance is also offered on how to notify schools, parents, and students of the existence of truancy prevention programs and on how to evaluate the effectiveness of such programs.
