Two major factors have been identified as being responsible for changes in homicide rates in the United States during the past 60 years, economic and age-related population indicators.
Abstract
The economic indicator includes personal consumption expenditures, while the age-related population indicator refers to the male population between 20 and 24 years of age as a percent of the total population. Assuming the two indicators have an impact on homicidal behavior, the question arises as to how much impact each exercises. Preliminary data on the importance of economic and age-related factors in homicide are reported, and further study is planned to determine the combined effect of the two indicators on homicidal behavior. 2 references, 1 table, and 4 figures
