This volume reports current drug trends and patterns in the 20 major metropolitan areas that sent representatives to the 41st meeting of the Community Epidemiology Work Group meeting in Austin, Tex. on December 10-13, 1996.
Abstract
The presentations focused on the abuse of specific drugs, drug overdose information, AIDS in drug users, drug law offenses, drug-related crimes, and drug treatment. Data came from public health agencies, medical and drug treatment facilities, criminal justice and correctional records, law enforcement agencies, surveys, and other sources unique to local areas. Representatives from foreign countries also gave presentations on drug use trends and patterns in specific countries and regions. Additional presentations focused on research conducted in Texas on drug use and gambling, sexually transmitted disease, and HIV/AIDS; treatment evaluation; issues concerning populations on the Texas-Mexico border; and drug-related mortality, trafficking, and emerging drugs of abuse in the State.
