Information from 25 countries formed the basis of an analysis of deaths and injuries from firearms, gun control laws and regulations, transnational illicit trafficking in firearms, and regional and national initiatives for firearms regulation.
Abstract
The survey also focused on the numbers of gun-related crimes, injuries, and deaths in which minors were involved; steps taken to implement Resolution 9 of the Ninth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, attitudes toward preparing a declaration concerning firearms regulation, and other documents or studies on the topic. Responses came from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Holy See, Iran, Jamaica, Japan, Maldives, Mexico, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Slovakia, Sweden, and Syrian Arab Republic. Argentina noted that the majority of murders were committed with firearms. In contrast, Bahrain reported that the restrictive laws on firearms resulted in no offenses related to gun use in that country for the past 20 years.
