The social skills described enable youth to handle stress and be psychologically as well as physically healthy. Five introductory chapters explain parents' roles as enablers of alcohol and other drug use, present facts about juvenile alcohol and other drug use, emphasize the importance of avoiding mixed messages, and outline job descriptions for parents and youth. The next six chapters explain how parents should teach the specific skills of feeling-processing, decisionmaking, establishing positive behavior, mood maintenance, communication, and refusal.
