The purpose of this book is to provide access to available information on sexual harassment in employment and education; historical and factual background information is incorporated, as well as resources for further exploration of legal, social, psychological, and political aspects of sexual harassment.
Abstract
The historical context of sexual harassment is reviewed in a chronology that includes significant legislation, court decisions, trends, political events, and other relevant occurrences. The chronology is necessarily limited, since the term sexual harassment did not emerge until the 1970's. Biographic sketches are presented of key persons in the field of sexual harassment, including activists, lawyers, politicians, and commentators. Factual information about sexual harassment is offered, such as information on laws and policies, statistics, relevant studies, and important cases. An annotated directory of organizations is provided that covers activist groups, research organizations, educational organizations, legal defense funds, political lobbying groups, and support services. An annotated bibliography of print resources, such as bibliographies, anthologies, books and monographs, and loose-leaf services, and an annotated listing of nonprint resources, such as films and videocassettes, are included. A glossary of important terms, a note on how to read legal citations, and an index complete the volume. References, tables, and figures
