Abstract
One table presents data on end-of-month prison populations and movements for each month from March 1996 through March 1997. These data are presented by commitment/movement type separately for males and females. The commitment/movement types listed are felons, civil narcotic addicts, youth authority, county diagnostic, "safekeepers," and other State/Federal. Total prison population movements are categorized by type of reception and type of release. Another table presents statistics on prison population movements from March 1, 1997, through March 31, 1997. The number of arrivals/transfers are presented by type as are the total departures/transfers. The numbers are broken down by "felon," "civil addict," and "other," with each of these offender types further subdivided by male and female. A third table shows statistics on admission or return status by institution for March 31, 1997. A fourth table shows the numbers in various ethnic groups by institution as of March 31, 1997. The ethnic groups are "white," "black," "Hispanic/Mexican," and "other." A table also lists the numbers in institutional populations by ethnic group, gender, and commitment type and institutional level. Parole population movements from March 1, 1997 through March 31, 1997 are presented by movement type, gender, and commitment type. Monthly parole populations and movements are presented as well for each month from March 1996 through March 1997.
