This videotape covers crime victim service awards made during the National Crime Victims' Rights Week ceremony.
Abstract
The stories behind the awards, briefly described in the videotape, demonstrate why the awards were given. The stories include a murder of a young person in Pittsburgh that led to an increased emphasis on sex offender notification laws in other jurisdictions, the extent of the nature of violence against women and especially those with disabilities, the importance of victim services and victim notification, and the need for victims of violence to talk about their feelings. The stories also concern violence against Hispanic women and children, juvenile sex offenders, the role of art therapy for children who have witnessed domestic violence, a program to help college students deal with their feelings in the context of sexual violence, and the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Program.
