The goal of Girl Power is to galvanize parents, schools, communities, religious organizations, health care providers, and other caring adults to make sustained efforts to reinforce the self-confidence of young girls. During its first phase, Girl Power will combine strong "no use" messages about tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs and will emphasize providing opportunities for girls to build skills and self-confidence in academics, arts, sports, and other endeavors. Subsequent phases will address related issues such as premature sexual activity, physical activity, nutrition, and mental health. Girl Power has over 100 public and private partners. Girl Power campaign products include a diary for girls and a press kit with sample media pieces, factsheets, and radio and print public service announcements. A resource list and a list of publications and studies on adolescent substance abuse are provided.
