Total New York State indictments for 1996 were 0.2 percent below the statewide level for 1995, while total New York State felony dispositions for 1996 were 1.1 percent below the statewide level for 1995.
Abstract
New York City registered a 3 percent decline in indictments and a 5.2 percent decline in felony dispositions. The total number of felony cases awaiting disposition rose by 0.3 percent, from 20,752 in 1995 to 20,806 in 1996. Pending dispositions in New York City also increased by less than 1 percent. The number of felony dispositions pending for 6 months or more rose by 9.3 percent, from 7,057 in 1995 to 7,714 in 1996. The most significant rise in dispositions pending for 6 months or more occurred in New York City. The number of offenders convicted but still awaiting sentence increased by 10.7 percent between 1995 and 1996. This increase occurred statewide, with New York City areas up 15.4 percent and other areas up 4 percent. 15 tables and 7 tables
