The document increases awareness about trauma reactions children experience, demonstrates ways children view themselves and their lives following traumatic experiences, dispels myths about children being too young to experience post-traumatic stress, details a trauma-specific interview process, and provides information for use by parents about the needs of traumatized children. Chapters focus on four areas: (1) traumatic losses and traumatic reactions; (2) stories of children who have suffered trauma, including family murder, sexual victimization, physical abuse, divorce, a fatal car accident, and multiple traumas; (3) the interview process with children; and (4) what parents need to know.
