The Police Foundation attempts to be the research and development arm of American policing, serving all the separate police departments that are too decentralized, too action-oriented and too short of funds to have their own R&D units. In addition, the Foundation, more than any other single body, has established that people with law enforcement backgrounds, academics, analysts and researchers can work together. The Police Foundation has become one of the most successful centers of research and public policy formulation in any area of public service. The forum provided by the Foundation for the timely exchange of information and the Foundation's assistance in developing training and programs have been invaluable to the law enforcement community.
