This study was designed to meet the pressing need for information to shape the efforts of those seeking to prevent or reduce the incidence of violence in public housing and similar environments, and the result was a manual on evaluating violence prevention initiatives.
Abstract
The manual is designed to familiarize public housing officials with evaluation issues and procedures so they can effectively monitor the work of internal or external evaluators and to provide public housing officials with skills for thinking through the design of a violence prevention project, even if an evaluation is not planned. Chapters of the manual look at reasons for evaluating violence prevention projects and programs, what constitutes evaluation, who should conduct an evaluation, how to prepare for an evaluation, the development of an evaluation plan, how to obtain the information needed for an evaluation, the analysis of evaluation information, and how to report evaluation findings. A list of resources to facilitate the conduct of an evaluation is included.
