Abstract
The kit contains five major components: (1) a user’s guide suggesting ways to use the kit’s other components, and a resource list identifying organizations that may be able to provide additional information on specific issues; (2) fact sheets and accompanying transparency masters on 17 youth crime prevention and juvenile justice topics: General Information and Strategies; Problem-Focused Solutions; and Programs That Deliver Long-term Results. These can be used as handouts, presentation notes, discussion guides, or starters for investigation of local resources and needs; (3) resource papers from the U.S. Department of Justice on key issues in preventing delinquency and intervening effectively with troubled youth; (4) a videotape containing a 60-second public service announcement encouraging adults to invest in youth, mini-videos on effective programs and strategies in nine of the topic areas presented in the fact sheets, and a 33-minute condensation of the PBS series “In Search of Law and Order: Reclaiming America’s Kids,” a starting point for a town meeting discussion on juvenile justice and youth crime prevention; and (5) a leader’s guide to using the PBS video and the original 3-hour series as a focal point to initiate community discussions.
