This book describes for managers what to do--and what not to do--to prevent workplace violence.
Abstract
The book details eight major categories of behavioral clues to violence and includes anecdotes from work settings to help managers and others identify potentially violent employees. Eight patterns of high-risk behavior include employees who: (1) act primarily on the basis of their emotions and impulse, overreact, and have outbursts of rage; (2) see no continuity between actions and results, repeat the same mistakes; (3) focus almost exclusively on their own needs, blame others, seek immediate gratification; (4) approach life inflexibly, demand perfection; (5) behave in passive-aggressive ways, manipulate others; (6) avoid reality, exaggerate credit and minimize blame, lie and deceive others; (7) change their behavior suddenly, dramatically or for the worse; and (8) behave in remote or withdrawn ways, are obsessed with plans, are isolated and cannot concentrate on the present.
