Abstract
The book is divided into five major sections. Section One describes types of abuse, barriers to responding to abuse, adaptive behaviors and pre-intervention strategies. Section Two is a compilation of service provider accounts of experiences with abusive elders. It provides intervention solutions for work with abusers who are cognitively intact, sexually disruptive, ornery, manipulative, depressed and those with dementia. Section Three offers a non-traditional look at the role of the nursing home ombudsman. Section Four concerns legal and professional planning and provides insights into the consequences of inadequate planning. It includes an account of legal matters affecting abusive elders and their victims, steps for protecting practitioners, and discussion of the importance of respecting practitioner human rights.
