This video records part of the 1999 National Crime Victim Service Awards Ceremony.
Abstract
This video records comments and incident descriptions by victims of crime and violence, as well as remarks from individuals active in victims' services organizations. The video includes descriptions of their activities by both civilian volunteers and professionals in several different States. The organizations include the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Victim Witness Assistance Program, Korean American Family Service Center and Victim Advocates Reaching Out. The organizations provide aid and comfort to victims of crime and their families as well as to survivors and their families after such events as airplane crashes and drunk driving incidents. Several victims describe their often fruitless searches for assistance, and the effects on their lives. Some individuals used their own survival stories as an incentive to create victim advocacy services and to lobby State legislatures to enact laws aiding and protecting victims and witnesses.
