This report describes activities of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for the Fiscal Year April 1, 1994 to March 31, 1995.
Abstract
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board is a quasi-judicial tribunal which provides compensation to victims of violent crime occurring in Ontario. Compensation may be awarded for: (1) expenses actually and reasonably incurred or to be incurred resulting from the victim's injury or death; (2) emergency expenses resulting from a personal injury or death such as medical expenses, funeral expenses and interim counseling; (3) loss of wages as a consequence of the total or partial disability affecting the victim's capacity to work; (4) pecuniary loss to the dependents of a deceased victim; (5) pain and suffering; and (6) maintenance of a child born as a result of a sexual assault. The report contains a brief review of legislation pertaining to criminal injuries compensation, factors considered by the Board before ordering compensation and sample Board decisions. Tables, figures
